Dark Matter Labs: Strategic learning infrastructure for regenerative, place-based, and civic systems work
Dark Matter Labs is a global civic R&D lab working on governance, finance, and learning infrastructures for regenerative, democratic futures. The work spans multiple projects, partners, and geographies, with a strong need for coherence across teams and for learning to accumulate rather than dissipate.
My role
Strategic Learning System Designer and internal infrastructure builder. I operated as a bridge between strategy, communication, and operational learning, often stepping in as a producer to make systems real and usable.
What I did
Designed and implemented learning infrastructure across teams, including retreat arcs, facilitation toolkits, and shared Notion/Miro environments to support distributed sensemaking.
Built internal communications systems that improved legibility across circles, including onboarding materials, briefs, and rhythm-based updates.
Supported place-based strategy work and project delivery, contributing systems maps, frameworks, and synthesis documents for work with partners such as the City of Boston, Fogo Island/Shorefast, and FCM x TreesAI.
Advanced organizational AI fluency through practical learning formats and lightweight systems that supported uptake rather than hype.
What we made
Learning cadences and templates, internal playbooks, workshop and retreat designs, Notion/Miro workspaces, synthesis briefs, system maps and diagrams, strategic decks, onboarding frameworks.
Outcomes
Improved cross-team coherence, clearer strategic decision-making, faster onboarding, stronger internal alignment, and a more durable learning culture where insights could be reused and built upon.
